Bird Island
Must be mating season - I've never seen this many of these birds here. I think they are herons, but I'm not sure.

Looks like quite the place to visit. Are the steps where the boats land?
Martie: Martin - I did not give this photo a good title. This little island is only a short swim from the shore. I don't know why the steps are there -- I think because folks swim out there to explore the caves. On the morning I took the photo there were so many of these birds. Usually there are only one or two. I didn't mean to mislead!!
I was once attacked by small birds for trying to photography them during the breeding season. They were just protecting their offspring
Beautiful location probably a cave, hope you will show us more images from this location
Martie: It's great you are so understanding of the attach -- I hope I would be too! Yes, that is a little cave, and yes I will be sharing some more of this in the future. Thanks for your comment!
Beautiful shot Martie. It seems to be quite a peaceful and serene place!
Martie: Thanks Richard. You are correct - it is a very serene place. Even the birds were silent this day.
wonderful ! very nice shot and beauty capture ... i like it , thanks.
Martie: Helma - thank you so much!
Now that looks like a place that could be good to explore, dark(ish) and mysterious.
I wonder if the birds are cranes?
Martie: You may well be correct about these birds being cranes, Ellie. I don't know about exploring the caves tho. I stay away from them (and the jungle). We have habu snakes here, which are a type of viper AND they are very aggressive!!
Not sure about herons Martie, they don't look big enough.
Nice shot
Martie: Tracy - you are probably correct. I really don't know what they are -- but it's fun watching them!
the entire compo is divine, way to go Martie, first class photo, love it
Martie: Thank Lorraine! Do you have that new computer yet??
Ginnie would know if they were cranes
Martie: Hum.... Sounds a bit like a private joke! Thanks for the comment. Ginnie - are you the bird expert??
Funny to see these birds around the hole in the rock..Just as if the were awaiting for somebody !
Martie: Yes - it did look like they were waiting! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
I like the white birds that are randomly placed in the pic
Martie: Thanks Aksel. It was unusual to have so many of them there.
Nice shot Martie, such a beautiful and quite plac.
Martie: Thanks! It was very quiet that morning. Just the sounds of the waves...
serene,soothing...
How cool!! I first saw this on the thumbnails and didn't even notice the birds. What caught my attn was how the rock wall looks like a man screaming!
I like this, cut out the stairs and it looks like something from King Kong. I especially like the way that the water has cut that overhang.
Martie: Thanks John. This was one of my favourite spots when we lived on Okinawa. We would go there most weekends and enjoy the view, the sound of the waves and drink our coffee. I'm landlocked now and miss the ocean so much!
